Disney+ will also have played a role in that I'm sure. And it shows, because the Rian Johnson's trilogy is all but cancelled, and they're going full in on the series. The other only truly good show to come out of Disney so far is The Mandalorian, and that's mostly thanks to Filoni and Favreau. Rian Johnson on the other hand didn't care about the franchise, but wanted to leave his mark on the franchise. JJ was passionate about SW, but he had no idea what he was doing. The sequels as a whole were just a mess, and I only find TFA midly enjoyable, but that's mostly because it's a reskin of ANH. George Lucas already had concrete ideas about the prequel trilogy before he started filming A New Hope. They just wrote it on a film-by-film basis, partially based on the reaction of the audience. Additionally, there was no script, there was no plan. The main problems with the sequels is that they allowed different directors with completely different visions to alternate the directing.
